BACITRACIN, HYDROCORTISONE, NEOMYCIN, and POLYMYXIN B (AK-Spore HC®, Cortisporin®, Cortomycin®, and others ) are used together to reduce swelling, redness, and itching of the eyes and to treat eye infections. Generic bacitracin; hydrocortisone; neomycin; polymyxin B eye ointment is available.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine? (Back to top)
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
•any other active infection
•contact lens wearer
•glaucoma
•recent cataract surgery
•an unusual or allergic reaction to bacitracin, hydrocortisone, neomycin, polymyxin B, corticosteroids, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
•pregnant or trying to get pregnant
•breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine? (Back to top)
Bacitracin; hydrocortisone; neomycin; polymyxin B eye ointment is only for use in the eye. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Wash hands before and after use. Tilt your head back slightly and pull your lower eyelid down with your index finger to form a pouch. Try not to touch the tip of the tube to your eye, fingertips, or other surface. Squeeze the end of the ointment tube to apply a thin layer of the ointment to the inside of the eyelid. Close the eye gently to spread the ointment. Do not use your medicine more often than directed. Finish the full course of medicine prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional even if think your condition is better. Do not stop using except on your prescriber's advice.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What if I miss a dose? (Back to top)
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.

Do not use any other eye products without consulting your prescriber or health care professional. Check before stopping or starting any of your medicines or non-prescription products.

What side effects may I notice from using bacitracin; hydrocortisone; neomycin; polymyxin B eye ointment? (Back to top)
If this eye ointment is used for long periods of time other serious side effects may develop. Report any other unusual effects to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as you can.

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
•burning, stinging or swelling of the eyelids
•eye pain, decreased, or blurred vision (that will not go away)
•rash
•watery eyes

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
•burning, redness or stinging in the eye
•eye irritation, itching
•temporary watering or blurring of vision

What should I watch for while taking bacitracin; hydrocortisone; neomycin; polymyxin B eye ointment? (Back to top)
Check with your prescriber or health care professional if your condition has not improved after 2 days, or if it gets worse. Do not use longer than 10 days unless instructed by your prescriber.

Tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are exposed to anyone with measles or chickenpox, or if you develop sores or blisters that do not heal properly.

If you wear contact lenses, before you use the product ask your prescriber or health care professional when you can wear your lenses again.

A burning or stinging reaction that does not go away may mean you are allergic to this product. Stop using and call your prescriber or health care professional.

Bacitracin; hydrocortisone; neomycin; polymyxin B eye ointment can make certain eye conditions worse. Only use it for conditions for which your prescriber or health care professional has prescribed.

To prevent the spread of infection, do not share eye products, towels, and washcloths with anyone else. Throw away any unused eye products.

Keep out of the reach of children. Store between 15 to 25 degrees C (59 to 77 degrees F). Keep tightly closed when not in use. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
